Who was he?




Widely regarded as the greatest writer in English Literature William Shaespeare was a Poet and a dramatist. He wrote 37 plays: comedies, histories, tragedies, composed about 154 sonnets and a few poems. He started out as an actor.
Shakespeare was born around April 23, 1564. he was the 3rd of 8 children and his family lived in Stratford-on-Avon, a market town about 100 miles NW of London. His father (John) was a shopkeeper or as somebody maintain a glove maker. A man of considerable standing in Stratford. Served as Justice of the Peace and High Bailiff (mayor) Shakespeare attended grammar school, where he studied Latin, grammar and literature, Rhetoric (the use of language).Apparently he didn't have any further formal education. He married Anne Hathaway, 8 years older than he, and they had 3 children: Susanna (1583), Judith and Hamnet (twins, 1585)
In 1594 he became a shareholder in a company of actors called Lord Chamberlain’s Men, while in 1599 Lord Chamberlain’s Co. Built the Globe Theater where most of his Play’s were performed, In 1599 he was an actor for Lord Chamberlain’s Men and principal playwright for them. In 1603 James I became king of England and Shakespeare's acting company was renamed King’s Men. In 1610 Shakespeare retired to Stratford-on-Avon and on April 2 1616 he died at the age of 52
